HOW TO MAKE A 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS MOVIES JUNK JOURNAL SPREAD
If you’re wondering how to make a 12 days of Christmas movies junk journal spread, this spread couldn’t be simpler. It’s just twelve printed images of your favourite festive films using Canva AI to create them, stuck onto Christmas paper and labelled with their titles inside your junk journal. No complicated folds, no tricky elements – just a lovely, cosy page that gets you in the mood for the festive season.
I made this spread as a nod to my own Christmas movie watch list – the films I pull out every single year without fail. It’s become one of my favourite pages in my journal, mostly because it’s so quick to put together but still looks properly festive once it’s done.

HOW TO MAKE A 12 days of christmas movies junk journal spread – What You’ll Need
- A double-page spread of Christmas-themed paper (I used a holly and winter florals design).
- 12 images of your favourite Christmas movies – these can be made with Canva AI (prompt is given below), or you can use my 12 movies (link to the template below). You could also use printed stills, stock images, or your own drawings.
- Puffy letter stickers or a title sticker sheet for “12 Days of Christmas Movies” – I’ll give you access to the letters I used – they were created in Canva.
- PVA glue or a strong glue stick.
- A few festive embellishment stickers (baubles, bells, a snow globe, a lantern, pinecones – whatever you have spare, you can even cut out old Christmas cards or Christmas wrapping paper if you have some.
- Scissors.
Step 1: Choose Your Twelve Movies
Start with your movie list. Mine was a real mix – some classics, some a bit cheekier:
Bad Santa, Elf, Mrs Miracle, Bridget Jones’ Diary, Love Actually, A Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street, The Holiday, The Sound of Music, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, The Snowman, and Home Alone.
You don’t need twelve “proper” Christmas films either – a couple of mine aren’t traditionally festive, they’re just movies I always end up watching in December. That’s the beauty of making it your own.
Step 2: Print Your Polaroid-Style MOVIE Photos
For each movie, find or create an image that captures the feel of the film, then print it with a white polaroid-style border. I kept mine small and evenly sized so six would fit neatly on each page, and I created them inside Canva using Canva AI.

If you’re using Canva or any other AI to generate the images rather than sourcing stills, a simple prompt along these lines works well:
“Create a nostalgic polaroid-style photo capturing the mood of [movie name], warm winter lighting, cosy festive colour palette, slightly vintage film grain”
You can adjust the wording until the tone matches your journal’s overall colour scheme – mine leans warm and traditional, so I kept the lighting golden and muted rather than bright or cartoonish.
If you want to use the same movies as mine, you can access my template on Canva here. You’ll get all twelve movie polaroids, the title words for your spread, and some Christmas elements you can add to your junk journal spread.
step 3: add your base layers

Base layers for my Twelve Days of Christmas Movies Junk Journal spread.
Choose and glue your base layers across two pages of your junk journal. I chose four different Christmas themed papers I had in my junk journal supplies, I ripped them up and added them to the two pages as a mix. There are no rules here – you can add any sort of Christmas themed base layers you wish, including old Christmas paper or old Christmas cards.
Once your base layers are glued down, check how your movies will sit on the page (Step 5 below).
Step 4: Lay Out Your Page Before You Glue
Arrange your twelve movie photos across your double spread and move them around until you’re happy. I went with six movies per page, leaving space at the top of the left-hand page for the title.
Leave a little breathing room between each photo – it stops the page feeling cramped and gives you space to tuck embellishments in around the edges afterwards.
When you’re happy with the layout of your movies, stick them over the two pages – be sure to leave enough space at the top of the first page for your title to sit comfortably.

Step 5: Add Your Title
Once your photos are placed and glued, add your title across the top. I used letter stickers I made in Canva reading “12 Days of Christmas Movies,”. I split the words across two lines so it sat naturally above the first few photos rather than cramming it into one row.
If you don’t have letters, you can use the same letters as me inside this Canva template, but you could also just as well have hand-written or stamped letters.
Step 6: Finish With Embellishments
Last, go back over your spreads and fill in any gaps with small Christmas embellishments – I added some from Christmas stickers I had in my supplies, but my Canva Template has a number of Christmas themed stickers you might like to use.
These don’t need to mean anything, they’re just there to soften the white space between the photos and tie the whole page together.

Make It Your Own
This spread is so easy to adapt:
- Swap in your own twelve favourite films, festive or not.
- Try a different colour palette for the “photos” to match your journal’s theme
- Use a variety of ripped papers to create more interest to your base layers.
Final Thoughts
This is one of those spreads that looks far more impressive than the effort it actually takes. If you make your own version, I’d love to see it – tag me on Tik Tok or Instagram @lifejunkjournal.

FAQ’s
How Many Movies Should I Include?
Twelve is a nice “one a day” number for the run-up to Christmas, but there’s no rule. Use however many photos fit neatly on your spread.
Do The Films Have To Be Traditionally Festive?
Not at all. A couple of mine aren’t classic “Christmas movies” – they’re just films I always watch in December. Make the list personal to you.
