Designed specifically for A5 journals, so everything is sized and ready to print. However it is possible to download these spreads as PNG images and re-upload to Canva that then allows you to resize them to suit your purposes. You can also make a COPY of the file in Canva, go into the COPY and resize that file using Canva’s resize tool – keeping the original A5 file as your master copy.
HOW TO USE THESE PRINTABLES
- Browse the spreads below. Right-click (or press and hold on mobile) any image you like, and save it directly to your device.
- Print at home or via a print shop. Print onto A5 paper, or scale to fit whatever size journal you’re working with.
- Cut, tear, and glue your printed spread into your journal just like you would with any other junk journal paper – layer it with your own ephemera, stickers, or handwriting.
- Want to edit before printing? Click the Canva template link below to open the editable version of these spreads inside Canva. From there, you can adjust the elements, change colours, use Canva resize to make the spreads larger or smaller, or personalise any spread before you print it.

how these were made – and how you can make more of them
I designed every spread in this pack using Canva, with the botanical backgrounds created using Canva’s AI image tools – it’s incredible what Canva AI can create for your junk journal – spreads you would probably never be able to create for yourself!
So if you’d like to have a go at creating your own botanical backgrounds in a similar style, an example of the prompt I used:
“vintage journal page, soft watercolour wash, squirrels and mice in woodland with tree trunk, autumnal leaves and fern leaves arranged naturally on aged paper as a soft border around the edges, sage and dusty pink palette, hand painted botanical illustration style, gentle paper crumpled texture, uneven organic edges, high resolution, portrait orientation“
Just go to Canva AI, drop in the prompt, and watch the magic unfold. You can tweak the prompt to reflect colours, designs, elements you want to achieve. For example you might want to change ‘squirrels and mice’ in the above prompt for ‘birds and deer’. Don’t be afraid to play with the prompt! Once you start – the possibilities are endless!
*Note: Canva has limitations on the amount of AI prompts you can give it in any one month. Once you run out it will notify you, you simply have to wait for the renewal date when you can use the AI feature again.
Feel free to tweak the colours, flower types, or textures to make it your own – it’s a great way to build an endless supply of backgrounds for your journal without needing to source or scan real pressed flowers.

Yes – every spread is free to right-click and download directly from this page. There’s no email sign-up or gate on them.
Do I Need A Canva Account To Use These
Not for the 25 background spreads – just right-click and save the spreads straight from this page to your device. You’ll only need a free Canva account if you want to access the 5 elements pages individually, or edit any spread before printing.
Can I Resize These For A Journal That Isn’t A5?
Yes. Download the spread as a PNG and re-upload it into Canva so that you can access it as an image in your Canva uploads, or duplicate the Canva template inside Canva and use Canva’s resize tool on the copy – just keep your original A5 file as the master so you don’t lose it.
Can I Edit The Text Or Colours On These Spreads Before Printing?
Yes, some of the elements on each spread are editable, although you might find editing is not a perfect science with these pre-made spreads. Open the Canva template link, make a copy of your master, go to the copy, make your changes, then download and print your personalised version.
